Tips What is it? How to do it?
Favicon A favicon is a small icon representing the logo of your website and displayed most of the time in the address bar, the title bar, in bookmarks, tabs and shortcuts. This icon allows a homogeneous aspect of your site in terms of visual identity. It is possible to integrate easily your Favicon with the website creation software web to date. First, you will have to create the favicon. It is an image representing your logo, which dimensions are 16 x 16 pixels with the (.ico) extension. Go to the web to date program:
Click on “File”
Click on “Website and FTP Properties”
Click on the “HTML options” tab
Click on the “RSS auto-discovery and favicon” button
Import your favicon image
Click on “OK”
Sitemap The sitemap is the structure of your site that displays pages and subpages. It is often useful when a visitor looks for a specific subtopic of your site. It is also used by search engines to index your pages optimally in their search result pages. In web to date, it is possible to generate your sitemap automatically and to display it at the bottom of the page. Go into the program:
Click on “Website and FTP Properties”
Click on the “Build” tab
Under the “Search engine optimisation” section, choose in the selection list whether you want to use “Sitemap for main pages” or “Sitemap for main pages and subpages”. Note: the default file name for the sitemap is sitemap.xml, this label must not be modified.
Go back to the interface, in the structure of your site on the left, click on the home page.
At the bottom of the interface, click on the “New subpage” button and click on “Next”
A window opens, click on “Site map”, enter the page title and click on “Finish”
Watermark for images A watermark for images is a process aiming at protecting image, video and audio resources, by adding a label as a textual or graphic watermark. Your web to date program has a watermark for images feature. Go into the program:
Click on the “File” menu
Click on “Website and FTP Properties”
Click on the “HTML options” tab
Click on the “Set watermarks” button
Check the box “Add watermark to uploaded images”
Enter your “Default text”
Click on OK
Fonts The font is the writing style of your text. Do you wish to change the current font of your site? It's easy. Web to date supports the Arial, Verdana, Comic, Times New Roman, Trebuchet and Tahoma fonts. Go to the program, in the menu look for the Design icon with the yellow star shape. Click on the Font tab and choose your favourite font.
Partner links Inserting commercial and non-commercial links on one's site is a very common practice. They allow informing the visitors, promoting an external site, or it is simply an exchange of links. Do you consider creating a Partner links section? That's very simple. First, create your page and name it “Partner links”. Go to the page and list the relevant links. For each link, select it by marking it with the mouse cursor and click on the “Links” icon. A window opens, go to the “External link” tab and type the URL of the link.
Creating a multilingual site I In an international business context, you can have to create a multilingual site. This is essential to communicate with your visitors. It is possible to create a multilingual site such as www.todate.com. Note: a multilingual site as offered by the software is a copy of the initial project in a different language. To access the site translated in different languages, links are included on the initial site, for instance via little flags. The software offers the French, German, English, Spanish, Dutch and Italian languages ready-made. Here is the procedure to follow: Go into the program:

1/ Create a copy of the initial project.
2/ Open the copy of the project, go to “File”, then to “Website and FTP Properties” and in the Language tab.
3/ The dialog box displays the resource file of the current language.
4/ Click on “Import”, a file list of language resources appears.
5/ Choose in the list the desired language.
6/ Click on OK
7/ The program took your change into account and translated automatically your site.
8/ You can insert your own text content translated beforehand in the desired language.
Creating a multilingual site II In an international business context, you can have to create a multilingual site. This is essential to communicate with your visitors. The software offers the French, German, English, Spanish, Dutch and Italian languages ready-made. In case you would need another language, here is the procedure to follow. Go into the program:

1/ Create a copy of the initial project.
2/ Open the copy of the project, go to “File”, then to “Website and FTP Properties” and in the Language tab.
3/ The dialog box displays the language resource file.
4/ Click on “Export”.
5/ Save the file on your local drive.
6/ Open the file with an HTML/XML editor.
7/ Translate the file.
8/ Go back to the copy of the project (in web to date) and import the translated file at the same location.
Last update Displaying the date of the last update of your site is very handy. It is indeed a way of showing to your visitors that your site is active and updated regularly. It is also a way, if your site is managed by different administrators, to know the last change done. 1/ Mark the page on which you would like to display the last change done.
2/ Click on “New module”.
3/ Select the “Last update” module.
4/ Click on the “here” link to be able to edit the module.
5/ Enter the text you want and the Time and Date parameters in the desired order.
6/ Click on OK
